About the Item

Janet Davidson-Hues Signed, Sealed and Delivered Year: 2011 Medium: Lithograph Edition: 20 Paper: Rives BFK, White Paper Size: 13.125″ x 42″ Image Size: 6.625″ x 36″ Signed lower right COA provided Janet Davidson-Hues often immerses herself in text, punctuation marks, and the intricate elements of language as she explores the interaction, dependency, clash, and collaboration between women and their language. She examines linguistic structures—its order, symmetry, and rules—while maintaining a keen awareness of the literal, vocal, and articulated aspects of words, as well as their limitations and necessity. Her work is as much about the murmur and the whisper as it is about the yell and the shout. Through the spontaneous and improvisational application of paint, she merges word and image, generating a visual energy that both conceals and reveals the literary agent—the voice—lurking on or just beneath the surface. This dynamic tension between language and image is something she has pursued diligently for a long time.
