About the Item
"Emprunt 4% 1918 - Appel" is an original lithograph poster by A. Malassinet. This poster advertised a fund for the national defense during World War I. The following are two statements from facilities that have this poster in their archives, Standford University and the Library of Congress.
"The sun rises behind a gothic cathedral, the words "pro patria" emblazoned across the sky. In the foreground, the proud French cock crows, clutching two laurel branches. Immediately behind him fly the flags of the Allies, which serve to highlight an intervening martial statue."
Via Standford University
"The Gallic cock stands in the foreground. Behind the cock is a statue of a mounted soldier [knight, Joan d'Arc]. In the background are the flags of the allies and a sunburst with the words 'Pro Patria'"
