About the Item

FARM WOMAN, by JONATHAN GREEN, is a hand drawn, limited edition lithograph printed in 19 colors using hand lithography techniques on archival printmaking paper, 100% acid free. FARM WOMAN portrays a colorful Lowcountry landscape scene in rural South Carolina depicting a Gullah farm woman, back view, clothed in an intense purple flared skirt dress; her wide brimmed golden yellow straw sun hat, trimmed with a long white and red striped ribbon, fully protecting her head as she hurries forward between a row of brightly colored quilts hung on a clothesline blowing in the breeze. FARM WOMAN dazzles the eye with its vibrant shades of brilliant orange, deep purple, bold red, rich blue, golden yellow brown and touches of green, brown, black, gray - so many lively colors portraying a reminiscent scene in Gullah Geechee farm life. Print size - 28 x 35 inches, unframed, excellent condition, hand signed in pencil by Jonathan Green Image size - 22.25 x 30 inches Year published 2009 Edition size - 100, plus proofs Printer - J K Fine Art Editions Co., NJ Painter and printmaker Jonathan Green is considered one of the most important contemporary painters of the Southern experience. The artwork of Green is heavily influenced by his Gullah heritage with vividly colored paintings and prints documenting everyday chores, in addition to celebrating Gullah life’s rites of passage. By returning his art to his childhood upbringing, Green has created an autobiographical body of work in addition to documenting a vanishing way of life. Jonathan Green's artwork has been exhibited across the United States and internationally, and is included in the permanent collections of several major museums. Artist statement - "I am drawn to rural environments that afford a sense of space and silence and an opportunity to unobtrusively observe daily functions of others as we all pursue life's mission of work, love and belonging.… It is the small, but critical tasks of daily life that I find most stimulating and reflective of the quality of essential, personal, community, and social values."
