David Schluss is a celebrated Israeli artist known for his expressive, rhythm-filled compositions that blend figurative abstraction, symbolism, and a vivid, almost musical use of color. Born in 1943 in Israel, Schluss began his artistic journey at a young age and later pursued formal training in fine arts in Canada, where he refined his distinctive visual language. Schluss’s work is characterized by flowing, elongated figures that often appear to float or dance through space, capturing moments of intimacy, celebration, and spiritual reflection. His subjects—often musicians, lovers, and mythic characters—are rendered in richly textured surfaces, using techniques that involve layering paint and applying it with his fingers and palette knives to create a tactile, sculptural quality on canvas. A master of serigraphy (silkscreen printing), Schluss has produced numerous limited-edition prints, many of which are hand-signed and embellished, and often include special editions such as Hors de Commerce (HC) prints. His work has been exhibited extensively in galleries throughout North America, Europe, and the Middle East, and is held in private collections around the world. Through his art, Schluss conveys a sense of universal human connection, often evoking themes of love, harmony, and movement. His style is frequently compared to Marc Chagall for its lyrical and dreamlike qualities, yet remains wholly original in its emotional intensity and visual rhythm.
