A year later, he renamed his business the New York Watch Company and moved his workshop to Springfield, Massachusetts. After a brief hiatus in the 1870s, the company reopened as the Hampden Watch Company and subsequently relocated to Canton, Ohio, in 1888. During the 19th century, Hampden became well-known for its elegant gold-filled pocket watches. During the 1920s, Hampden merged with another Canton-based watchmaker to form the Dueber-Hampden Watch Company.
