Bernard Von Eichman was born in 1899 in San Francisco, where he suffered a difficult childhood. He managed to enroll in the California College of the Arts in 1915. There, he met Louis Bassi Siegriest, with whom he would later exhibit as a member of the "Society of Six." From 1918–1930, Von Eichman exhibited his bright modernist works with the Six, a group opposed to the dominant Tonalism that was popular in the Bay Area. Von Eichman was an established artist in the 1930s, when he left for relative obscurity in New York, where he lived until the onset of World War II. Returning to California, he was a resident of San Francisco and Monterey until his death in 1970, shortly before which he burned a great portion of his life's work.

Mr. Byer owned homes in Key West, New York City, and Washington, D.C. He purchased the painting from Dunning Auction in 1984 in Elgin, Illinois. Mr. Byer was related to Abraham Weiss from Florida. Saul Babbin, now deceased was a cousin of Mr. Weiss. I purchased the painting from Joy Babbin, Mr. Babbin's wife, now living in from New Mexico. Mario Larrinaga was born in Baja California in 1895 and moved with his brother to Los Angeles in 1909. He had no formal training in art, but had natural talent that was noticed by local movie studios. He was hired by Universal Studios as a designer, art director and creator of background scenes.
