Chris Wolston Furniture

Chris Wolston is a New York-based artist whose work explores the material vernacular of the modern-day and the fetishization of process. He received his bachelor of fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Fulbright grant to Colombia. Inspired by manual techniques and the regional contrasts between his Brooklyn and Medellín studios, Wolston creates work that demonstrates playful adaptations of materials, often mixing high and low-tech processes. Wolston’s work can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of American Glass and the Museo de Antioquia in Medellín, Colombia.

Antique Navajo Rug Rare Folk Rug Geometric Handmade Wool Beige 1920
Located in New York, NY
Navajo Rug Flat Woven RugTapestry Beige 4' x6' (3'11" x 5'7") 119cm x 170cm Circa 1920 "This piece has a light brown border (perimeter) - the top and the bottom border of the rug is frayed. The inner border is a narrow brown/black color. The next inner border is a narrow tan color. The main background color of the rug is a tan grey color. The central design of the rug is a stepped design in light tan, brown, red and black/brown in half diamond shapes and a full diamond shape in the center. The center of the full diamond shape is a top and bottom hook design. On each side of the diamond shapes are zigzag, sawtooth, wide lines in light tan and black/brown colors. NOTE: it would be beneficial to have the rug on a wall-hanging apparatus; the two tacks on each upper corner will weaken the threads. The rug is a Navajo Crystal area rug of Western New Mexico. The Crystal Trading Post (established 1896; now closed) was located on the Navajo Reservation in far Western New Mexico, high up in the Chuska Mountains. Navajo rugs made from the Crystal area are known for their soft, beautiful, muted earth tones achieved by vegetal dyes. Some colors you can expect from these natural rugs are tan, grey, white, brown, orange, red and yellow. Geometric patterns are usually the focus of these Crystal rugs which are handwoven. The rugs come in a variety of sizes from under four feet to over seven feet long. Though inspired by J.B. Moore more than 100 years ago, by the 1940's, the Crystal style changed with the times. Original J.B. Moore era Crystal Navajo rugs...

Antique Navajo Rug Yei Navajo Rare Human Geometric Handmade Wool Ivory, 1940
Located in New York, NY
Navajo rug flat woven rug tapestry beige Measures: 4' x6' (3'11" x 5'7") 119cm x 170cm Circa 1920 "The woolen rug has a white background color on which are three stylized figures on each side of a center cornstalk. All are surrounded on three sides by a "guardian "figure - one side is the head and the body - the other side are the legs. The rug is a Navajo Yei rug. All the figures are holding prayer sticks; there are feathers attached to the elbows of the figures in a vertical line. The colors of the rug are white, red, maroon, blue, tan, brown, grey, orange, rust and gold. The most common type of Navajo Yei rug are those with a white background color. Navajo Yei rugs were made at Lukachukai or in the Shiprock area or even Ganado. It is a fact that a Navajo Yei rug with many Yei figures and many colors will garner the highest value. While Yei rugs are technically woven for the floor, they were often placed on couches, or hung on the wall like paintings, few actually touched the ground. The Yei figure is a frequently used pattern in Navajo rugs. Male Yei figures are generally pictured with round heads, and female Yei figures with square heads. Modern Yei rugs are more often pictorial compositions, showing a row of front-facing stylized stick figures with a Rainbow Guardian which protects the figures on three sides, indicating the sand painting roots of this particular style. The Yei rug portrays ceremonies on a desire for healing, not only physical health, but also mental, spiritual, and even material well-being. The "Holy People...
