XXL Mid-Century Modern Gray and Orange Carstens Tönnieshof Ceramic Table Lamp
By Carstens Tönnieshof, Amitābha Studio
Located in AMSTERDAM, NL
Oversize Mid-Century Modern Fat Lava table lamp by Carstens Tönnieshof, West Germany, with new teal-gray and orange jacquard drum lampshade by Amitābha Studio.
This oversized 38-inch table lamp (approx. 3 ft; 96 cm) is a commanding, sculptural presence—an authentic lava glaze table lamp remade as functional art. The vase base captures the high drama of late-’60s mid-century modernist West German pottery: a smoky blue-gray gradient dissolves into a glossy, molten band of vivid orange that flows over a cratered, black “lava” texture. The mix of matte, gloss, and bubbled surfaces shimmers like cooled magma. We’ve echoed that energy above with a custom extra-tall shade in textured jacquard by Linwood (UK), woven in Italy: a teal-gray ground embroidered with a coral-inspired chenille pattern in orange, finished with Houlès Paris trim and a matching orange fabric-covered cord. The result is an oversized West German fat lava lamp...

Sculptural French Fat Lava Ceramic Table Lamp by Louis Giraud, Vallauris France
By Louis Giraud
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Ceramic table lamp produced by Louis Giraud for his eponymous studio, 'Poterie d'Art Giraud' (Vallauris, France, ca. early 1950s). Giraud's sculptural works were often seen in thick lava glazes.
This piece is a fine example showcasing Giraud's incorporation of a dense volcanic glaze, referencing the incrustations left by mollusks. Unique three-vessel organic-form in appealing, neutral palette.
Incised signature present: "Giraud Vallauris...
