Statue of Liberty Attributed to J.L. Mott Iron Works
By J.L. Mott Ironworks
Located in New Orleans, LA
Crafted from cast iron, this large-scale sculpture is modeled after the Statue of Liberty, arguably the most famous monument in the world. The robed female figure represents Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, and was originally designed by the famed French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi. Like her 151-foot sister statue in New York City, this Lady Liberty holds aloft a torch in her uplifted right hand and a tablet in her left, upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. An icon of freedom and a welcoming signal to immigrants arriving to the United States, the Statue of Liberty has become a symbol of liberty, justice and the American dream around the globe. It is perhaps one of the most recognizable works of art in existence, and it has inspired a number of tributes over the decades. The New York-New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas famously erected a replica of the statue in their faux cityscape, while the statue has also been depicted on American coinage and currency since its completion. She has also appeared on postage stamps, license plates, professional sports jerseys...
