Dose Coffee Table
By Pieces
Located in Brooklyn, NY
The Dose coffee table was developed because we needed a table for our family room that looked and felt softer than any of our designs from the past. We have always loved the idea of mixing and matching materials. So what’s cool about the Dose is that you can combine them in different colors and surfaces to add some interest to the room. We chose the performance velvet for the upholstery because it has such a soft look to it but it’s super durable. A versatile table with a stone surface that sits flush in the base. Suitable as a coffee or side table on its own, or pair them up to fill a larger space. Made by hand in USA Available in: Sand/ pink composition Sand/ ming green...

Mastea High Coffee Table in Murano Glass & Walnut Base, by Matteo Zorzenoni
By Matteo Zorzenoni, Miniforms
Located in Brooklyn, NY
This high coffee and side-table comes with a base and top in Canaletto walnut, natural ash, ash stained black, intense blue or anthracite. The structure's body is made out of blown Murano glass, available in amber, blue-grey or smoke grey. Here you are shown the Mastea coffee table in the Canaletto walnut base finish and in the high size. If you are interested in the natural ash, ash stained black, anthracite ash or Intense blue base structures. Matteo Zorzenoni started to experiment with Murano glass in the 1970s and, even if the generations have changed, the glass is blown as it once was: it needs a master glassblower and two strong lungs. Working with this material every day is like revisiting a traditional dish. The ingredients are the same but there is something new in the taste. Matteo Zorzenoni's research is mainly focused on materials and their limits, aimed at discovering their potential. His projects have been exhibited at: Maxxi Museum in Rome, the Biennale of Art and Design in St. Etienne, the London Design Festival, the Venice Biennale. Matteo Zorzenoni was a professor at the IUAV in Venice, collaborates with the IED in Madrid and hosted a laboratory for Domaine de Boisbuchet (Vitra Design Museum). After a collaboration with Fabrica, Benetton Communication Research Center, he started a new project with Jaime Hayon, which is still ongoing. His research in the craft sector continues with projects for customers, including Cappellini, Mercedes Benz, Replay, Alcantara, Bosa Ceramiche...

Opinions on what is Hundertwasser's most famous piece vary. Some point to the Hundertwasserhaus, an apartment home in Vienna, Austria, that Friedensreich Hundertwasser designed. One of his best-known paintings is The Beard Is the Grass of the Bald-Headed Man, which he created in 1961. No, not all Limoges pieces are marked. While most Limoges include the factory's production and decorating marks, some pieces will have no mark. That’s why it is important to purchase from a vetted seller or vendor to ensure authenticity. 1stDibs partners with only top-vetted sellers to offer authentic pieces that come with a buyer protection guarantee.

To identify Murano glass, look for a label. You may find it on the bottom or the back of a piece. The label will usually specify the name of the glassworks that produced it. Consult trusted online resources to determine if a given artisan or workshop is known for making Murano glass. Authentic Murano glass is universally known for its quality, so look for pieces that feature smooth, even surfaces and bold, vibrant colors. The Vetro Artistico Murano trademark is an official trademark of the Venetian Glassmakers Association and may be of use in determining if your Murano glass is authentic, but buyers should keep in mind that the market is flooded with imitations of this glass. Experts recommend working with a certified appraiser to get assistance with identifying specific pieces. Find a range of Murano glassware on 1stDibs.

Opinions vary on what is Banksy's most famous piece. Girl with Balloon is considered one of his best-known works. In 2001, the anonymous artist created the street art mural as part of a series of works located around London. In 2018, Banksy sold a painting of the work at an auction for $1.4 million. Shortly after the completion of the sale, the painting self-destructed and proceeded to partially shred itself. The stunt made headlines, adding to the fame of the work. Other famous Banksy pieces include Pulp Fiction, Di-Faced Tenner, Laugh Now, Love Is in the Air, Queen Vic, Devolved Parliament and Kissing Coppers. On 1stDibs, shop a range of Bansky art.

A definition of abstract art is art through which the artist doesn't attempt a visual depiction of the world. The artist may have other intentions : conveying a pure emotion, or achieving what (s)he perceives as visual perfection, etc. There are many kinds of abstract art : lyrical abstraction, geometrical abstraction, action painting… There is also an infinite spectrum between hyperrealism and pure abstraction, since one can argue that any brush stroke is by itself an abstraction of the reality — let alone flat color patches.

Picasso's most famous piece is arguably Guernica, which he created in 1937. A black-and-white oil painting, it captures the horrors of war with its depiction of the German bombing of Guernica, Spain. Another of his well-known works is Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. When it was produced in 1907, the painting was considered immoral and shocking for how it showed nude women whose faces resembled Iberian tribal masks. Other notable works by Picasso include The Old Guitarist, Le Rêve, The Weeping Woman and Girl Before a Mirror. On 1stDibs, find a variety of Pablo Picasso art.

What old pieces of furniture are called depends on their age. Furniture that is at least 100 years old is antique. If a piece of furniture is 20 to 99 years old, it is vintage. You may also see people refer to old furniture by its type and style. For example, someone may say "a Victorian sofa" or a "mid-century modern dining table." On 1stDibs, explore a large collection of antique and vintage furniture.

What a piece of furniture with shelves is called depends on its overall design. An item with rows of shelves that has an open back is an étagère, while a similar piece with a closed back is a bookcase. In some cases, a large étagère may be referred to as a shelving unit. A cabinet is a piece of furniture that has shelves hidden behind doors. If a furnishing has drawers and cabinets on the bottom and open shelving on the top, it is a hutch. On 1stDibs, explore a diverse assortment of storage furniture and case pieces.
  • 1stDibs ExpertNovember 13, 2024
