Monumental Amphora Art Nouveau Vase w/Saurian by Eduard Stellmacher & Co.

By Eduard Stellmacher

Located in Palm Beach, FL

Model #2 Eduard Stellmacher and Co, Porzellanfabrik und Kunstkeramische Industriewerke Driven to establish a new company that produced luxury porcelain and ceramic items based on his own aesthetic aspirations, Stellmacher left Amphora when the workshop was at its most prosperous, in 1904. Together with entrepreneur Karl Frank, who provided the financial backing, he founded Ed. Stellmacher & Co. in Turn-Teplitz in 1905. From the outset, Stellmacher worked hard to achieve a major position among other high-end ceramic art producers. He believed the success of the company would depend on his products of “appropriate methods and unerring quality, perfect from both the technical and artistic sides”. Stellmacher based his first collection on artistically progressive products, pieces he believed would be in high demand. The greater part of the designs were either large vases complemented with sculptures of fantastic dragons or natural animals. With this series, Stellmacher continued the themes he had created for Amphora from 1899-1902, however, his naturalistic renderings of animals was even more elaborately precise. He developed a special ceramic material called refined earthenware, which minimized the shrinkage that was common during firing and allowed for greater preservation of details in the original models. Unfortunately, by 1905, contrary to Stellmacher’s plans, there was little to no demand for objects of this type. Very few pieces exist today as very few were originally produced. Even after redirecting the company to produce commercial goods Stellmacher still could not ward off the company’s demise. By 1910 the Stellmacher & Co. fell into bankruptcy and was liquidated. Located in Wembley, GB

Antique Victorian Silver-Plated Folding Biscuit Box, Shell Form, Sheffield, c. 1890 This exceptional antique Victorian silver-plated folding biscuit box is a rare and highly decorative example of late 19th-century English silverplate, crafted in Sheffield, circa 1890. Designed in an elegant shell form, the piece exemplifies the Victorian fascination with naturalistic motifs, sculptural metalwork, and refined domestic luxury. The shell-shaped body sits within a beautifully cast and chased frame, supported by richly detailed branch-form uprights—a hallmark of high-quality Victorian decorative silverware. The surface displays a soft, luminous silver patina, enhancing the sculptural curves and organic detailing while preserving its authentic antique character. One of the most remarkable features of this piece is its ingenious folding mechanism. The box opens smoothly into two symmetrical halves, revealing its original hand-pierced interior dividers, meticulously crafted to separate biscuits, sweets, or confections. When closed, the box is secured by exquisite laurel wreath loose-ring handles, a classical Victorian motif symbolising elegance, achievement, and refinement. Both functional and ornamental, this silver-plated container works beautifully as a biscuit box, sweet box, trinket holder, or tabletop centrepiece. It makes a striking statement on a dining table, sideboard, console, or display cabinet, and transitions effortlessly between traditional, eclectic, maximalist, and curated contemporary interiors. Whether styled in a formal dining setting or as a decorative accent, it brings undeniable presence, craftsmanship, and historical depth. Antique and Vintage Bowls and Baskets

As decorative objects in your space, antique, new and vintage bowls and baskets make for a versatile addition to any corner of your living room, dining room or the console table in your foyer or entryway. Whether they’re positioned as a focal point for the family dining table or an accent on the shelving in your home office, or perhaps you’re just endeavoring to add minimalist ceramics throughout your home, an alluring art-glass centerpiece bowl or antique rustic fisherman’s basket is an easy way to elevate high-trafficked areas of your apartment or house.

Aside from the obvious functionality that a decorative bowl or basket brings to your kitchen, displaying such items behind the glass doors of a vintage storage cabinet or on your open kitchen shelving allows you to add a touch of personality and flair to the space, particularly if you’re accustomed to serving cocktails while you cook or if the kitchen is a common area for gathering and unpacking the events of the day.

As your bookcase is so much more than a place to, well, store books, adding a decorative bowl or basket — a mid-century modern work or an Art Nouveau–-era piece designed by French art-glass makers Daum — to the space where you keep your art monographs and coveted first editions can draw attention to your treasured library.

For the tranquil California coastal-style interiors you’ve worked so hard to create, fill a hand-carved wooden bowl on your console table with glass fishing floats or seashells, while a tall woven vessel by your front door can be populated with leafy green plants.

For anywhere and everywhere in your home, find a wide variety of antique or modern decorative baskets and bowls on 1stDibs today.
