About the Item

Antique Middle Eastern Inlaid Mosaic Jewelry or Cigarette Box with Mother-of-Pearl, Early 20th Century, Handcrafted Syrian or Egyptian Mosaic Inlaid Box with Bone & Mother-of-Pearl, Circa 1920, Antique Middle Eastern Mother-of-Pearl & Bone Inlaid Wooden Box, Early 20th Century A beautifully handcrafted antique Middle Eastern mosaic inlaid box, dating from the early 20th century. This exquisite piece features an intricate geometric design composed of hand-cut mother-of-pearl, bone, and various natural hardwoods, arranged in classic Sadeli-style marquetry patterns. The craftsmanship displays a remarkable level of detail, with hundreds of tiny tessellated elements forming starbursts, diamond motifs, and border work. The box rests on a matching inlaid plinth base, enhancing its architectural presence and decorative appeal. The front features a central circular inlay flanked by two rectangular bone plaques, characteristic of Syrian or Egyptian workshop production of the period. This versatile box may have originally served as a jewelry box, presentation box, or cigarette box, and today makes a striking decorative accent for a desk, tabletop, or display cabinet. Its warm honey-and-amber tones combined with iridescent mother-of-pearl give it a glowing, luxurious aesthetic. Dimensions: (please provide and I will incorporate them) Condition: Very good antique condition with expected minor wear from age and use; some small losses or age splits to inlay typical of hand-crafted pieces of this period. A wonderful example of early 20th-century Middle Eastern decorative arts, showcasing the region’s celebrated tradition of fine inlaid workmanship.
