About the Item

Late 20th century Expressionist Giacometti-like pair of french bronze candle holders By: Diego Giacometti (in the style of) Material: bronze, copper, metal Technique: cast, patinated, molded, metalwork Dimensions: 6 in x 6 in x 22 in Date: late 20th century, circa 1980 Style: Expressionism Place of origin: France This rare pair of late 20th-century french bronze candlesticks displays influences of Expressionism. Crafted entirely of bronze and patinated in a deep green hue, the candlesticks have a cylindrical shaft that divides into two openings at the top to hold candles. The textured floral motifs in each opening provide visual interest. The candlesticks stand on a square base supported by four slender legs. Adding to the overall sculptural quality is a small owl figure perched on the base. The abstract, biomorphic forms reflect stylistic features often seen in works by Diego Giacometti. As a one-of-a-kind artwork from around 1980, these candlesticks would make a compelling addition to any contemporary decor.
