About the Item

A beautiful clock of ornate Rococo design, the case finely cast with scrolling acanthus and rocaille ornament, the front and sides with pierced lattice panels back with fabric, raised upon a shaped plinth with boldly scrolling feet. The circular porcelain enamel dial has Roman numerals between delicately scrolling floral swags with pierced gilt hands. The pendulum can just be glimpsed swinging gently above the base. Crowning the case is a finely cast urn, exuberantly issuing a profusion of flowers and foliage, a fitting flourish to the Rococo design. The dial is set behind a convex glazed bezel, while to the reverse a glazed door affords a view of the movement. Decorated in the round, the clock is as finely finished at the back as to the front, allowing it to be displayed with equal effect upon a table center or positioned before a mirror, where its elegant form may be admired in full. The French movement is of high quality and is by Samuel Marti. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video of the clock, please ask and we will send you a link. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. There a small piece missing to the front sound fret. We have replaced the fabric with fresh. Dial is also excellent with just some slight wear to the lettering. Samuel Marti clockmaker's mark on the movement backplate Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
