Provenance of J. Mansfield
Joseph Mansfield, a celebrated clock and watchmaker from Shaftesbury, Dorset, was born in 1814. Likely the son of Thomas Mansfield, who had established his business in Salisbury Street around 1780, Joseph Mansfield continued the family tradition, first recorded at High Street in 1842 and later in Salisbury Street by 1867. After his tenure, the business was taken over by his son Thomas J Mansfield, preserving the Mansfield legacy.
