Art Deco Style Copper Veglia Table Clock from Fratelli Borletti Milan
About the Item
Important Art Decò “Veglia” table clock from Fratelli Borletti, Milan.
Founded by Romualdo Borletti in 1897 to produce watches under licence from the American company Westclock, it was developed by his sons Aldo and Senatore Borletti.
The company operated in the field of precision mechanics: its products, under the Veglia brand, included not only watches but also car and measuring instruments.
The company won two Compasso d'Oro awards: the first with Marco Zanuso in 1956 and the second in 1964 with the Sferyclock alarm clock designed by Rodolfo Bonetto.
The Borletti family was one of the most important families in Lombardy's capital, active in patronage of the arts and owners of a large villa in Via San Vittore 40: the villa, built in 1936 and co-designed by Gio Ponti, is considered one of the city's historic buildings of modern architecture, despite being in a poor state of conservation.
