George II Edward Browne of Norwich Bracket Clock in Ebonized Mahogany Case

About the Item

A nice example of a George II bracket clock in an ebonized mahogany case with brass feet made by clockmaker Edward Browne of Norwich. Edward Browne took over the shop of clockmaker Jeremah Hartley in the Market Place, Norwich after Hartley's death in the summer of 1717. He became a Freeman, as a clock and watchmaker, on the 27th Nov 1719, and opened a branch shop in North Walsham in 1722. The clock has glazed glass doors on the front and back, opening to a 6.75 inch brass arched Roman numeral dial face with cast scrollwork spandrels, silver plated chapter ring and conforming dial arch with the clockmaker’s name “Edward Browne, Norwich” and brass eight-day works. The clock dates to the early 18th century and is very good overall condition, with minor glazing losses, veneer shrinkage cracks, and other minor imperfections and wear commensurate with age and use. Includes a winding key and the clock’s bell needs to be re-attached. Will want to confirm running condition again before purchase. Dimensions: Approximately 19 in H x 11 in W x 7.25 in D. Ref: 787
