About the Item

The set consists of a watch and a pair of high-quality mercury bronze candelabra.
The ormolu watch has a side drape with laurel purses and foliate finials. The dial is in white enamel with cartouche Roman numerals. Serial No. 9685 c.d.
The watch has a suspended base with small purses with foliage that flank a tassel drapery containing. The back is draped and in the center we find its pivot with the gear of the clock inside. The composition ends with the putto or winged angel inserted over the clasp.
The set is completed by a pair of six-light candelabra (one central and five arms) with a grooved body and vase shaped lights shaped with strap handles, on a base worked and decorated with foliage. Overall decorated with enameled bands of arabesques and swirls and neogreek motifs with palmettes and stylized antennas.
Samuel Marti was born on September 20, 1811 in Langenthal, Canton Bern, Switzerland. He was the son of Jean Marti and Barbe Neukom. In 1830 he moved to Montbéliard in France and married Camille Adèle Masson in Montbéliard in 1851. From this marriage 4 children were born. Camille Emilie in 1852, Louise Amélie in 1852 and the twins Samuel Augustus and Emilie Suzanne, Eugénie on December 4th 1857. Samuel Augustus Marti later became the successor in his father's company. His son André Samuel Jules Marti (1890-1958) married Jenny Alice Marthe Japy, descendant of Auguste Julien Japy.
