About the Item
A lovely kiln-formed and wheel cut mosaic glass object by Klaus Moje made in Canberra. Cf.: Dan Klein, "Artists in Glass - Late twentieth Century Masters in Glass", Beazley, London, 2001: Like many of the best contemporary glass artists Moje has expanded his chosen technique farther than could ever have been imagined, .... Despite his European roots one now thinks of Moje as an Australian artist, who more than anyone else has set the high standards of contemporary Australian glass.
The object is made from a kiln-formed mosaic of cut glass canes. This particular piece is very interesting, as it seems that in those early days in Canberra, Moje did not have the infrastructure or capability of doing a roll up. While about ten years later he did that in Canberra, when he created mosaic vessels on a glass pipe. This piece has likely been formed with high temperature Kevlar gloves or other tricks, to give it the look of a vessel. It is also rare that Moje gave a title to a work of glass, like he did in this particular case. After cooling, the object has been refined by Moje with skillful cutting, satinating and polishing. The item is signed, named, dated und numbered.

Klaus Moje
Klaus Moje has been recognized internationally as one of the most significant innovators in the medium of glass, inspiring several generations of young artists. Moje was born in Hamburg, on October 5, 1936. He moved to Australia in 1982, where he founded the Glass Workshop of the Canberra School of Art and the modern art glass movement in Australia. In addition to teaching, Moje has participated in countless exhibitions in Europe, North America, Australia and Japan. His work has been acquired by more than 50 public museums internationally, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Museum Bellerive in Zurich, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York. Working with a variation of an ancient glass fusing technique dating back to Roman times, Klaus Moje’s glass mosaics immediately engage the eye through his masterful use of color and pattern. However, the impact of Moje’s glass is not only visual. Moje shares intimate glimpses of his world, his memories and his visions as tangible poetry. Moje died on September 24, 2016, in Canberra.
