About the Item

A lovely kiln-formed and wheel cut mosaic glass object by Klaus Moje made in Canberra. Cf.: Dan Klein, "Artists in Glass - Late twentieth Century Masters in Glass", Beazley, London, 2001: Like many of the best contemporary glass artists Moje has expanded his chosen technique farther than could ever have been imagined, .... Despite his European roots one now thinks of Moje as an Australian artist, who more than anyone else has set the high standards of contemporary Australian glass. The object is made from a kiln-formed mosaic of cut glass canes. This particular piece is very interesting, as it seems that in those early days in Canberra, Moje did not have the infrastructure or capability of doing a roll up. While about ten years later he did that in Canberra, when he created mosaic vessels on a glass pipe. This piece has likely been formed with high temperature Kevlar gloves or other tricks, to give it the look of a vessel. It is also rare that Moje gave a title to a work of glass, like he did in this particular case. After cooling, the object has been refined by Moje with skillful cutting, satinating and polishing. The item is signed, named, dated und numbered.
