About the Item

Origin: Brazil Amethyst is a mineral formed with solutions rich in iron oxides, which give it its characteristic purple color. The most common is to find the amethyst lining the inside of geodes, sometimes gigantic. It can also be found in the form of druses when the crystals cover the surface of a stone and accompanied by other minerals, as in this wonderful specimen in which the formation are large points, both covered with smaller points and crystallizations of white quartz. The main deposits are found in the Urals, Germany, Western Australia, Zambia, Brazil, Uruguay, USA, Canada, India, Sri Lanka, Bolivia and Tunisia. The name amethyst comes from the Greek “amethystos”. According to Greek mythology, Dionysus, god of wine and debauchery, was courting a maiden named Amethystos, who wished to remain chaste. The goddess Artemis heard his prayers and transformed the woman into a white rock. Dionysus, humiliated, poured wine on the rock, thus dyeing the crystals purple. This art object offers a distinctive and unique touch that can transform any space, making it a point of conversation and admiration.
