About the Item
Amazing antique expertly hand-carved wood block that has been used in printing production, now stained a dark reddish brown color from ink that appears to have been red. This now rustic piece shows signs of years of handling in the daily life of the printing process, while still being stunningly beautiful as a textural, sculptural object. Highly ornamental with a main repeating rosette or mandala motif, surrounded by a curving, brackets with a repeating border detail in a dot pattern at the top and bottom. This would have been one of many layers stamped to a fabric during the traditional printing process to create a whole image.
