A finely cast Italian Grand Tour bronze reduction of the celebrated Florentine “Porcellino,” after the 17th-century model by Pietro Tacca, itself inspired by an ancient Roman copy of a Hellenistic Greek boar. This cabinet-scale sculpture captures the animal in a poised, alert stance, its head lowered and body subtly tensed, conveying both naturalism and latent energy.
The surface is richly worked with deeply chased, rhythmic striations to suggest the boar’s coarse hide, highlighted by warm golden undertones and areas of natural verdigris, enhancing depth and visual movement.
