Mid-Century Lucite Ice Bucket with Embedded U.S. Coins, circa 1975

About the Item

Mid-Century Lucite Ice Bucket with Embedded U.S. Coins, circa 1970 Attributed to California Design Group/Studios. A striking and sculptural mid-century modern Lucite ice bucket, crafted in the United States circa 1970, featuring embedded uncirculated U.S. coins minted between 1967 and 1973. This cube-form ice bucket measures approximately 6 inches in all dimensions and is meticulously cast in thick, optically clear acrylic with sharply faceted corners and edges. The hinged lid opens to reveal a concave bowl interior, also embedded with coins, designed to hold ice in dramatic Pop Art style. Numerous U.S. denominations—including Lincoln Memorial pennies, Jefferson nickels, Roosevelt dimes, Washington quarters, and prominent Kennedy half dollars—are permanently suspended within the Lucite in a geometric grid pattern, creating a dazzling, kaleidoscopic effect. The coins appear in brilliant uncirculated condition, preserved in their mid-century luster. The symmetrical arrangement across all surfaces, including the interior basin, demonstrates the level of craftsmanship involved in the multi-stage casting process. Both functional and eye-catching, this piece reflects the playful luxury of American design in the Space Age era. Unmarked and attributed to California Design Group/Studios. A unique addition to any barware collection, patriotic Americana display, or design-forward interior. Dimensions: 6" H x 6" W x 6" D Interior 4" x 4" Condition: Excellent vintage condition with minimal surface wear; Lucite is clear and glossy with no yellowing or crazing. Hinge functions smoothly.
