This extraordinary silver Havdalah compendium, attributed to the renowned 20th-century silversmith Peter Ehrenthal, is a masterwork of Jewish ceremonial art and craftsmanship. Richly detailed and architecturally inspired, the piece combines function with opulent form, standing as a testament to both religious tradition and aesthetic grandeur.
Rising from an ornate, fluted base supported by four scrolled feet, the structure features four finely ribbed columns crowned with decorative bows and medallions. These columns support a circular floral ring that is used as a candle holder for the Havdalah ceremony. Beneath the platform, the columns rest on a compartment that slides open to reveal a cabinet that's used to store the Besamim or smelling spices. The Compendium is richly adorned with various styles of intricate floral and foliate motifs, medallions, and symbolic detailing, reflecting the refined artistry characteristic of Ehrenthal's workshop in New York.
