Matali Crasset Designed "Nomade / LED" PS 2017 Floor or Table Lamp, for IKEA

About the Item

For sale the wonderful "Nomade / LED" Floor or Table Lamp, designed by French designer, Matali Crasset for Ikea's PS 2017 collection.    This hard to come by lamp, is fast becoming highly collectable and is the designer's fourth collaboration with Ikea since 2012. The design which was inspired by old, portable railway lights, consists of a minimal white caged design with a handle, housing a red LED light block which can be powered & charged using a detachable usb cable and when charged can be used without the cord. Crasset, the designer, says of the light: "It is a product that allows appropriation, it moves and lands where we need it. It is a humble and helpful object at the same time. It lands, it clings… always ready, we find this complicity with an object [the railway light] whose function is out of time, but whose presence is updated." An old concept re-imagined for modern times. One of the most interesting contemporary figures in design, Matali Crasset pursues an experimental and multidisciplinary approach to her work. Her projects often combine crafts, electronic music, architecture and graphics in a transversal and dynamic way. In 1988, she moved to Paris where she attended the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle. After her graduation, she collaborated with Denis Santachiara's studio in Milan and later returned to Paris to work with Philippe Starck. During this period, she became head of the Thompson Multimedia research centre and, later, Tim Thom, Thompson's design centre. Subsequently, in 1998, the designer founded her own (self named) practice in the Belleville district of Paris. (Archiproducts)

Ross Lovegrove D36 “Agaricon” Table Lamp for Luceplan, Italy 1999
By Ross Lovegrove, Luce Plan
Located in London, GB
For sale is an iconic orange D36 “Agaricon” table lamp, designed by Ross Lovegrove in 1999 for LucePlan of Italy. Light and semi-transparent, the Agaricon (Greek for mushroom) is switched on and off by touching an aluminium sensor ring that runs around the outer edge of the lamp's shade. Running the finger along that rim regulates the modulation of light intensity and acts as a dimmer. The body and lid are made of high-pressure injection-moulded polycarbonate. The lamp is in superb vintage condition and in perfect working order. The only issue of note is that two of the three small plastic clips that would have originally secured the top plate to the rest of the lamp are missing. This is only an issue if the lamp is tipped upside down, without holding on to the top, otherwise the plate sits snugly in the base. The Agaricon which is included in Charlotte & Peter Fiell’s book, “1000 Lamps” and featured in many museum design collections is already a lighting classic and makes quite a statement. Ross Lovegrove is one of the world’s most acclaimed and influential designers best known for utilising the latest technology to create futuristic, organic forms; he has applied his signature style to everything – from computers and bicycles to fragrance bottles, chairs to lighting, bathroom sets to speakers, aircraft seats...

French designer Matali Crasset has created a lamp based on traditional railway lighting for IKEA's PS 2017 collection. Crasset took inspiration from classic hand-held railway lanterns for the design. "I've always been interested in different types of transport and been fascinated by how magical it must have been when we got light indoors," said the designer, who previously designed a grid-patterned wardrobe for IKEA's 2014 PS collection. "So it's maybe not surprising that I was inspired by old railway lights when I created the LED multi-use light in the IKEA PS...
