About the Item
A grand and imposing Regency overmantle mirror. Richly water-gilded and adorned with finely carved detail. The frame is exuberantly decorated with bold scrolling acanthus leaves and a central foliate crest. All crisply carved and retaining much of the original burnished and matte gilding. The mirror retains its original mercury glass plate, softly foxed and shimmering with the distinctive character only time can lend. The reverse is finished with a traditional panelled back, further confirming its early 19th century origin. A superb statement piece, elegant and opulent, capturing the refined classical taste of the Regency period.
