About the Item

In Josef Hoffmann's designs, foliage emerged as a central and recurring motif, wherein he masterfully encapsulated nature’s intricate ornamental language in a stylized and minimalist manner. Drawing inspiration from the imaginative creations of Dagobert Peche, Hoffmann's work showcased a unique blend of artistic vision and craftsmanship. Despite the pronounced stylistic simplification, evident in this wall mirror dating back to the 1930s, the essence of nature remains unmistakable. Its gently curved silhouette gives rise to pointed leaves reminiscent of those adorning a climbing plant. Of particular note are the meticulously carved isolated flower shoots, seemingly emerging from their protective foliage. Harmonizing effortlessly with the light frame's contours, the applied vegetal embellishments never overwhelm. Crafted to the highest standards of quality, the mirror was meticulously executed by the esteemed frame manufacturer Max Welz in Vienna, who held an exclusive contract with the Wiener Werkstätte at the time. Consequently, Welz mirrors found their way to discerning clientele through Wiener Werkstätte branches and Max Welz outlets, captivating design enthusiasts from Vienna to Berlin and New York.
