About the Item

Awesome vintage Mid-Century Modern Lane Style No. 997-87 rolling cube storage ottoman walnut veneered cedar lined end tables with flip tabletop game board on one side black vinyl or faux leather upholstered on the other side, a pair. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. It is in wonderful original vintage condition with no outstanding flaws that we have observed. We have filled and colored a few chips in the veneer along the box corners and the lower lip of the box top then it all received a nice Danish Oil finish. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, October 16, 1965. NOTE: We think this pair of Lane game board tabletop end tables is a MUST HAVE, however, if you love them but only need a single table we would consider separating them if you are so inclined. Reach out for details on single table pricing. Is there anything more fun than hanging out with your partner or a friend playing a friendly game of checkers or chess at home on a lazy Friday night? We think NOT! AND we are here to help… GAME ON!!! This is an AWESOME pair of Lane style no. 997-87 rolling cube storage ottoman end tables with a game board tabletop on one side and FLIP it over to a black vinyl or faux leather fabric upholstered side on the other. It is comprised of stunning walnut veneer bearing GORGEOUS wood grain and black grooved decorative sides. Use them as a pair of incredible game tables or flip the top over and they double as upholstered seats giving you a wonderful pair of ottomans or stools. They are an all-in-one everything-you-ever-wanted magnificent piece of mid-century modern design wonderment! They are full of fun and fabulous style that you can conveniently ROLL into any room! What a perfect addition to a game or family room! They have adequate storage for the game pieces you acquire for the gameboard, additional cards & games, or whatever items you need to stow away! Plus, they’re cedar lined so you can store linens, clothes, or any type of fabric with confidence! And not to mention they carry the renowned “Lane Reputation!” When my parents started in this vintage furniture business around 1989, people & collectors would say…” Oh, that’s just Lane.” Now, 35 years later and those same people & collectors are saying…” Wow! That’s Lane!!! A highly sought after name in the vintage furniture world! My… what a little time will do. I think this is one of those pieces {sets} you didn’t know you needed until you have it in your home. And then you wonder what you ever did without it! And we are sooooooo in love with them here at the shop… we’re going to have a hard time letting them go! Lane was founded in 1912 by Edward Hudson Lane at the age of 21, upon his father’s suggestion after he, John Edward Lane, bought a small packing-box plant in Altavista, Virginia. Edward procured a loan and converted the factory to make cedar chests and named it The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. Sales were good and the company expanded. But during WWI, with the banning of rail freight deemed non-essential, they began making pine ammunition boxes. This is notable as it led to an assembly line which was revolutionary and became the first moving conveyor assembly system in the furniture industry. After the war, with sales still increasing Ed Lane decided he could risk giving the company his name and changed it to The Lane Co. in 1922. They began advertising and an ambitious program of research and development leading to hiring their first staff designer and sales force. They made it through the depression with a lot of hard work and again during WWII converted to providing items needed for wartime. After WWII a complete design department was added. They were innovative creating new materials. One called Lanewood which was produced from waste wood. 1951 brought the making of occasional tables. Then in 1956 the acquisitions began of other companies to add case goods and upholstered furnishings. With production of their mid-century-modern furnishings, the company continued to grow and expand until in 1987 it was acquired by Interco, Inc. But, for 75 years the Lane family of Altavista, Virginia ran the business with Edwards son, Bernard Bell (B.B.) Lane, being at the helm at the end. Lane is still to this day a leading U. S. furniture manufacturer. Impeccable quality, a distinguished Lane Furniture reputation, and truly GORGEOUS GAMING!! This pair of cedar lined, walnut veneered Lane rolling cube storage ottomans, stools, or end tables with black faux leather and game board flip tabletops is a MUST HAVE… don’t let them go!
