Contemporary Ceramic Facetated Side Table Column Stool Unglazed Stoneware
About the Item
Handmade earthenware facetated side table manufactured at the workshop of Apparatu in Barcelona. Different clay bodys are mixed with natural fibers like corn, straw, or heather straw. The pieces are casted by hand, creating a thick and strong clay structure.
It's a one of a kind object that has several layers of glaze and is fired at 1050Cº. The pieces are a personal exercise on glazing and the glaze formulas are changing on each object. The colours are depending on the combination of different oxides and minerals. Until a piece is completed, it is glazed and fired several times.

Apparatu
Apparatu is a design studio, ceramic workshop and a family business, run by Xavier Mañosa, which creates objects that are situated between the world of crafts, industry and art, the Studio investigate the processes and materials around ceramics and their application in design. Apparatu also carries out commissions for the likes of Nike, Isabel Marant or Hermès, and has exhibited at contemporary design festivals across the world, from Frankfurt to Tokyo, London to New York. Their studio is a creative hub where the traditional art of pottery meets resolutely modern technology and materials.

These side tables take their inspiration from Mediterranean architectural research: houses carved into rocks or built up with clay. Those graphic and angular forms are naturally shaped out from elements and fit with human living. Sol sculptures are thought like caves or refuges that can be used as side tables integrating storages but also as seatings. The rough material recalls in a significant way the flawlessness of the limestone rock.
