19th c Small Indian Stick Box or Dowry Chest perfect for Small Side or End Table
About the Item
A nice example of a small Indian stick box, typically passed down through the family with each generation in the Thar desert area of West Rajasthan and were used as dowry chests. The box is most likely made of kair tree wood from an area where wood is scarce, with hand forged iron corners and lock hardware with rivets throughout, and a hinged top halfway across the top. The box is supported by four turned feet. Very good condition, with minor surface imperfections - the finish has been refreshed with shellac. Some minor foot losses, and the top may have had some canvas handles at some point. Dimensions: Approximately 16.75 in H x 24 in W x 16.5 in D. Please see our other larger stick box posted. Ref: 8
