About the Item
Very beautiful Louis XV chest of drawers in marquetry of violet wood treated in frieze, opening with four drawers in three rows and presenting a very rich ornamentation of gilded and chiseled bronze, it is topped with a royal red marble from flanders molded in beak of corbin .
The bronzes stamped with the crowned C present on certain elements such as the pull handles, make it possible to date the production of this piece of furniture between 1745 and 1749. On the other hand, the quality of execution, the very pure lines in the Louis XV style suggest that it is the work of a Parisian master cabinetmaker. Note, for example, the turbulent shapes of the drawer uprights that hug the curve of the chest of drawers, a very rare stylistic effect on tomb-shaped chests of this period.
Very good condition, restored by our workshop with a superb natural buffer varnish.
Bronzes with crowned C: “We find this hallmark on certain bronzes, it attests to a tax on metals in force between 1745 and 1749. Its presence makes it possible to precisely date the production of a piece of furniture. The crowned C has also become a hallmark of quality for collectors, it only seems to have been engraved on the most refined bronzes. » Source: Revue l'objet d'art n°320, page 46/54, January 1998.
