About the Item

These STACKED Table base’s are hand-built custom per your specifications. Short and wide like the salvaged Mahogany Base shown here, possibly taller, or even wider, a different species of wood, or whatever else you may need. They are hand-built with tiny blocks of wood; each block being carefully placed to create the desired shape. Once built, the exterior is gently sculpted smooth using a variety of hand tools achieving a polished surface with subtle undulations similar to that of hand-built ceramics. Inversely, the interior is left unshaped accentuating the terraced contours. The finished surfaces are a wonderful balance of textured and polished, with one’s eyes drawn into the repeating concentric rings. The salvaged wood offers one-of-a-kind patterns brought to life by Richard’s unique STACKing process, achieving a quality akin to basketry or mosaic tile work; the overall shape, quantity, and scale of Richard’s STACKED pieces are customizable upon request. Please note: These images show the table base in salvaged Mahogany. Custom options are available in a variety of domestic hardwoods, some specialty woods, as well as overall shape and size upon request. This table shows a 46"dia glass top with a beveled edge, larger tops are possible as well. Customizations may incur additional cost. This table base is fully customizable in all aspects.

Customizable STACKED Oval Coffee Table, by Richard Haining
By Richard Haining
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Part of Richard Haining's STACKED Collection, this hand built table is shown here in both salvaged Mahogany as well as salvaged Spalted maple. The incredible variation and intensity of tones and colors inherently found in Richard’s stacked work is a result of the wood's previous life; water and mineral stains, knots, century-old nail holes, and other “defects” that are part of that lumber's history, a fingerprint of time since passed, a natural beauty to be celebrated, and only found through reclamation. These STACKED Table base...
