ICEBERG TABLE 4 Studio Greytak pays homage to the mighty mountains of ice with Iceberg Table 4. A series of broad prisms, each crossed with faint parallel lines reach skyward through a sea of glass. Respectfully acquired by a local family who dug it by hand from a peak considered the spiritual center of the universe, this giant crystal floats delicately on a base of solid bronze with patina. Quartz crystals are found on every continent on Earth, but it is those mined by hand from the vast Himalayan mountain range that contain the highest of spiritual powers. In Hinduism, Mount Meru is the center of the physical, metaphysical, and spiritual universes and the home of deities Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Its earthly counterpart, Meru Peak, is equally revered, and nearly impossible to scale. Beneath the craggy peaks, quartz crystals have been steeped in the mystical power of Mount Meru for millions of years. Miners carry them out in packs, wrapped in layers of fabric to protect the clusters from damage. Unlike their rock crystal counterparts, these clear stones are not to be programmed with personal intentions—they are to provide the purest form of enlightenment. Use Himalayan quartz in meditation and heed its guiding wisdom. Ancient Sumerians used copper- and tin-rich rocks to build campfire rings. As the stones became heated, the metals melted and mixed, forming bronze. This world-changing metal brought tools, weapons, armor, building materials, and a new sense of value to the ancient world. It is often associated with fire because of its reddish color. As an alloy of copper and tin, bronze takes on the properties of both but is generally thought to enhance courage and practicality and encourage focus on work.
