About the Item

A small desk with two drawers in ash wood and Formica, Danish production, designed by Svend Aage Madsen and produced by Sigurd Hansen, 1958. Despite its compact size, this desk reflects the Danish design ethos of the time, characterized by meticulous attention to detail and the use of high-quality materials. In this case, the use of ash wood instead of the more commonly employed teak adds to the rarity of the piece. With its light, warm tone, ash enhances the clean lines of the desk, emphasizing its simple yet perfectly balanced proportions, ideal for domestic spaces. The broad desktop accommodates two drawers, each lockable and accessible via a sculpted handle. The writing surface, finished in aqua-green Formica, combines aesthetic appeal with exceptional practicality. The desk is a design by Danish architect Svend Aage Madsen, a distinctive figure in the design world. From the 1950s onward, Madsen created a range of furniture pieces—mainly seating and desks—distinguished by their simple yet sculptural forms. This particular desk has been carefully restored, respecting its original finish. Dimensions: 102W 70D 77H cm
