About the Item

FRENCH GILDED IRON SET OF THREE NESTING TABLES Circa 1950s with mirrored glass tops 19 1/2" H x 24 1/2" W x 16" D 18 1/2" H x 23" W x 16" D 17 1/2" H x 21 1/4" W x 16" D An elegant and sculptural set of three stacking or "nesting" tables in painted and gilt iron, each with a rectangular mirrored top set within a raised rim raised over a scrolling base. The iron frames are endlessly curving with tightly wound volutes and interlocking elliptical forms. They probably originate in France in the 1950s, each reflecting the Hollywood Regency design aesthetic of the post-war era. The nesting of the three tables serves the dual purpose of functionality, allowing an expanded serving area when needed, but also more critically it gives some shape and texture to the interior by breaking up the space a bit from what is typically expected in a side table. Very strong presence. Condition: painted iron refreshed over the years and presents with wear, light oxidization and discoloration; mirrored glass with silvering loss and scratches (these can be replaced upon request, but actually present quite nicely with some "patina"); sturdy and stable. ref. 506ZLK18P About silla antiques & art Established in 2009, we have available in our 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery an ever-changing selection of carefully curated and catalogued furniture, decorative arts, paintings, sculpture and estate jewelry. French Modernist Gilded Wrought-Iron & Glass Coffee Accent Table ca. 1950s
Located in Shippensburg, PA
MODERNIST GILDED WROUGHT-IRON AND GLASS COFFEE TABLE French, circa 1950s unmarked Item # 401RGG02P-1 An endlessly interesting modernist accent table from the 1950s, it works perfectly both as a side table beside a low sofa or chair or as a coffee or cocktail table. The diminutive stature of the table allows it to be a part of the room without dominating at all, adding texture and visual interest with the brilliantly textured gilt patina while having a great deal of negative space that makes the table feel light, airy and relaxed. The 3/8" thick (and brand new) glass top is set into tiny grooves in the legs, each with a single twisted iron ring hanging from the top with a gentle curved profile that terminates in a stubbed sabot. Ready to place. We acquired this together with a matched pair to this that is almost identical in size but is a simple black patination instead of having the gilt surface on the wrought iron; contact us if you would like to know about the other table. Measurements: 19 1/8" H x 29 5/8" diameter Condition Report: Glass is brand new 3/8" thick tempered clear glass; table in very good condition, light wear to gilding and overall patina in a few spots, incredibly sturdy and solid. A fine ready-to-place presentation. About silla antiques...
