About the Item

This Italian table from the first half of the 19th century is the work of top masters from Tuscany and far surpasses the usual role of a piece of furniture, due to its fascinating and complex decoration that makes it a beautiful achievement in the field of applied arts. The table is decorated with the technique of intarsia, which created a sumptuous and lovely decorative composition on the top of the table, which represents two swallows, one of which holds a snail in its beak, surrounded by a wreath of various flowers. Along the sides of the table there is a decoration consisting of motifs of leafy branches with small flowers and sumptuous foliate motifs in the corners. Some details on the entire inlaid composition are made of bone, while the beaks of the birds are made of mother-of-pearl. The central support of the table in the form of a pillar with grooves and acanthus leaves is in the neoclassical style, made of carved wood and gilded with real gold leaf. The table has a square base that is decorated with elaborately designed intarsia with motifs of playful foliate arabesques. The base is supported by four feet in the form of lion's paws, made of carved and gilded wood.
