About the Item
A finely crafted 1980s side table that merges the crisp geometry of campaign furniture with the refinement of Maison Jansen and the modernist glamour of John Vesey. The steel base is accented with crisply cast bronze paw feet and X-form stretchers, the surface showing a beautifully aged patina.
The top is a solid, honed slate disc enclosed within a bronze band, its original gilding now gracefully worn. This construction sets the table well above more common glass-top examples of the period, lending both tactile richness and permanence.
Campaign-inspired furniture — originally designed for portability and elegance in the 18th and 19th centuries — was revived in the mid-20th century by Vesey, Jansen, and other top designers, who transformed the functional aesthetic into symbols of sophistication and cosmopolitan taste. This example carries that lineage into the 1980s, offering both history and versatility for today’s interiors.
