LXV side table by Aaron Scott
Dimensions: D 32 x W 32 x H 36 cm
Materials: Walnut.

Brooklyn-based designer Aaron Scott was raised in the mountains and forests of Southwest Oregon. He studied philosophy at the University of Colorado,
Boulder, followed by fine art at the San Francisco Art Institute. Since moving to
NYC in the late 90s Scott has worked in a variety of mediums – film, sculpture,
writing and furniture design. Drawing inspiration from nature, science and
mathematics, Scott’s work explores relationships of space, light and movement.
Using a meticulous, labor-intensive process that relies on the hand and the eye, improvisation and experimentation, Scott has developed a body of sculptural furniture characterized by complex geometries, rotational symmetry and unconventional engineering. Since the early 2000s Scott’s furniture has been built using the stacked-laminate method – a technique that relies on the careful laying-out of alternating grain patterns on parallel pieces of wood, overlapped in successive layers. The process is both additive and subtractive. In the first stage the rough form is built by stacking glued-up layers, each corresponding to a given point on the x, y or z axes. These layers, laminated together in a stair-like or topographical form, are then sculpted with handheld power tools to obtain the final, smooth surface. With each new piece Scott attempts to push the boundaries of the medium of wood and his own imagination, posing and re-posing the question to himself: Which parts of the form are essential and which can be removed?

Galerie Philia
Galerie Philia is an international contemporary sculptural design and art gallery representing emerging and established designers and artists. The gallery is the brainchild of two brothers who share a lifetime passion for art, literature and philosophy. Their distinct academic background sets them apart from their peers, as it sees them following a rhizomatic and transcultural approach in the way they select works. This involves combining elements from multiple cultures in what becomes a network of harmoniously interconnected roots, ultimately revealing the beauty of each unique creation. The gallery’s non-hierarchical curation sits apart from the ephemerality of trends and focuses instead on the true aesthetic quality of the piece – alluring and timeless. Unlike others, Galerie Philia does not focus on a single style – whether minimalist, organic or raw – but rather embraces heterogeneity. The Galerie Philia takes pride in discovering new talents, providing them with multiple international platforms to showcase their latest creations. As well as propelling the newest generation of 21st century collectible design, Galerie Philia also works with internationally known design artists. Galerie Philia has a strong international presence, with galleries in Geneva, New York and Singapore. In addition to their permanent spaces, the gallery organizes temporary group exhibitions and artists residencies in first-class locations around the world.

Materials: Afircan Sapele, White Oak

Studio ANANSI, founded by Evan Jerry in 2018, represents a reection on modernity with a nod to the Afrocentric elements that have been missed or masked in contemporary design.
Evan’s Caribbean heritage and global education is pronounced in the studio's collections, with the name ANANSI itself being taken from West African and West Indian folklore. The beloved and omniscient character of Anansi is a mythical character known in many fables to be a god of knowledge and storytelling. Anansi is renowned for nding transformative ways of turning relative weakness into strength and virtue. Being raised in Canada, the importance of an ancestral character like this who protects history and knowledge became an important inuence on Evan. In turn, the practice of representation and transformation becomes evident in what is produced through his vision. Evan and Studio ANANSI oer a clever and confronting understanding of all our connections to prologue through sculptural, and architectural storytelling. Studio ANANSI has collaborated with renowned American furniture brand...
