About the Item
An ebonized side table or pedestal comprised of three well carved elephant heads with decorative bronze mounts. The elephants heads with contrasting carved wood tusks. The elephant heads alternate with bronze classical or mythological figural masks on the apron, possibly a satyr or a bacchic mask. The stand is raised up on a triangular plinth with a bold central final. As the top can turn, the piece would make an excellent Sculpture stand.
Dimensions:m 20.5" diameter by 29.5" high.
Condition: Please see detail photos. The piece is distressed with various signs of age including chip to finial, chips to both tusks of one elephant (see photo); top with deep scratches and wear with over-painting to top, veneer losses to the base, wear and nicks consistent with age and use. Despite the wear the Table maintains an exotic and exceptional presentation.
