1960s Floating Gilt Capiz Table with Velvet Pod Lamp.
This piece of Hollywood Regency uber-kitsch would make Pussy Galore purr!
Produced by the Rembrandt Lamp Co. circa 1965.
This lamp is unmarked but see images 11 and 12 for photos of the only other one I've ever seen and its label.
Look at the extraordinary finish on the table; gilt capiz, the translucent outer shell of the windowpane oyster, overlapping like snake skin, tinted gold then varnished with a thick clear polyurethane.
The armature consists of three gilt spiral rods from which the table suspends, like the basin of a balancing scale.
The centerpiece is an ovoid-shaped balloon lampshade decorated with golden orange and apricot colored velvet flocking and ribbon.
The on-off switch is a gold tassel pull from the bottom of the pod shade.
Suspends from ceiling with length of chain.
Sit cross-legged on your shag rug with this as your floating cocktail table!
