Dieter Rams Design Promotion poster for Handle program or Griffprogramm 1986

About the Item

Here is a very rare and desirable vintage Promotional drawing poster displaying detail handle program by the German designer Dieter Rams for FSB 1986. This poster is printed on both sides. Measures: 84 x 60 x 0.01 cm. The abbreviation rgs hides the first letters of the words “Rams grey-black”. All parts of the rgs series are made from a combination of cast aluminum and thermoplastic. The supporting elements are made of sturdy metal, the grip surfaces are made of glass ball-reinforced plastic. The ones from FSB The new joining technology developed for cast aluminum and thermoplastic is innovative and legally secured. A special feature of rgs is the careful coordination of the colors silver gray and black. The silver-gray shimmer is the unmistakable characteristic of the cast aluminum. Dieter Rams and FSB spent a long time looking for the right alloy. The most important conditions were pure metallic character and natural coloring. The combination of pure aluminum with a high silicon content ultimately proved to be the answer to all questions. No element other than oxygen is more abundant in the earth's crust than silicon. In its pure form it is obtained from quartz through reduction with aluminum. The gray silicon crystallites are evenly distributed in the light aluminum base mass. This structure remains visible to the naked eye in rgs. The metal is only protected from abrasion by a transparent, hard anodized layer. The silver gray of the cast aluminum was contrasted with the black of the glass ball reinforced thermoplastic. The consciously chosen different materials and the contrasting colors specifically assigned to these materials are in a harmonious dialogue with one another. The careful selection and combination of materials and colors ensures a long-lasting life for all parts of the rgs series. Door handles are Tools that are picked up often and not always gently. The metal provides the necessary stability, the plastic provides the desired grip. The metal parts will retain their original appearance over the years. The initially matt surface of the plastic parts polishes itself over time through use and therefore always stands in clear contrast to the metal. rgs consciously swims against the broad current. The program aims to create a real alternative to trendy plastic colors and historic brass shine and at the same time set a signal for a new trend. The gray and black series from Dieter Rams and FSB has every chance of not becoming outdated in the next century.
