About the Item

This unique pair of six-faceted cloisonné vases, each adorned with a theme of 博古 (Bo Gu), displays the beauty of antiquity. The facets feature intricate burgundy window frames, reminiscent of patterns from the Qing Dynasty. Turquoise hues fill the gaps within the burgundy design, creating a harmonious contrast. The window openings showcase Han Dynasty-inspired bronze flower vases and wine caps. In the window, there are large antique bronze containers that were originally used as food containers, and later were used as decorated items or for storing precious painting scrolls. There is wooden table stand, which cradles a miniature pine tree bonsai (盆景). The royal cloisonné table lamp exudes elegance. The floral motifs include the auspicious peony, the graceful narcissus, the fragrant magnolia, and the symbolically significant peach. On the base of each vase, you’ll find the stamp “宣德年制,” indicating that they were made during the Xuande reign (1425-1435). From the design and style, we think they were made during early 20th Century. Provenance: Acquired from Maroufi Fine Rugs & Antiques. Interestingly, the previous owner was an American embassy lady who worked in China during the 1970s. She received this exquisite pair of cloisonné vases as cultural exchange gifts. This elongated triangular jade mountain stands on a wooden lacquer base. The stone’s side displays two bat Feng Shui symbols. (In Chinese, the bat is bianfu. Fu also means fortune.) There is also a magnificent pine tree with branches gracefully hanging down. The cut of the mountain rocks exhibits clean lines and a geometric quality, which is typical of the Qianlong period.
