Albert CHAMINADE (1923-2010) Abstract composition, 1988 Charcoal and ink wash on paper Signed and dated "88" lower right Dimensions of the work : 25 x 38 cm Dimensions of the original frame : 37 x 50 cm Albert Chaminade began training in 1941 at the École supérieure des arts et industries graphiques Estienne in Paris. Married to Emilia Faure (whose work we present in our selection of paintings), he set up the studio in which he worked for over forty years near the Place des Vosges. A member of the Nouvelle École de Paris movement, Albert Chaminade was one of the painters who developed an art known after the war as "abstract landscapes". Initiated by artists such as Charles Lapicque (whose work we present in our selection of works on paper), this movement aims to combine the artist's sensations of the landscape with the gesture that transcribes them onto canvas. Albert Chaminade's paintings take their inspiration from Brittany, the Baie de Somme, Aveyron and the outskirts of Paris. The pictorial transcription, on the other hand, is free from realism and illusionism. It's not a question of painting an observed nature, but rather of inscribing on canvas a sensation experienced in front of it. In 1964, the Galerie de l'Atelier in Toulouse held a major exhibition dedicated to the new concept of landscape. Albert Chaminade took part, alongside Olivier Debré, Marcel Bouqueton (whose work we present in our selection of paintings) and Jean Le Moal.
