A really eye-catching black and white figurative work by Modern British artist Ewart Johns (1923 - 2013) 'A Homage to Picasso' Ewart Johns (British, 1923 – 2013) Homage to Picasso Pastel on paper Signed with initials and dated ‘EJ 94’ (lower right) 20 x 16 in. (50.8 x 40.7 cm.) Ewart Johns was a Welsh artist who lived from 1923 to 2013. His works are fresh and exciting explorations of colour and form, with a clear sense of identity coming through. He trained under Ceri Richards, helping to formulate his bold and colourful style. In 1972, Johns became the founding head of the new Department of The Visual Arts at Lancaster University. He lived in Devon until the end of his life.
