About the Item

Composition is an original watercolor on paper, realized in 1963 by Gérard Ernest Schneider Hand signed and dated by the artist on lower margin. Provenance: Carlo Pellizzari Collection (stamp on the back) Includes frame: 30.7 x 3 x 38.5 cm Gerard Schneider was born in 1896 in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland. The son of an antiquarian, he soon moved to Paris where he studied at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs and experimented with the main artistic movements active in those years: he became interested in the thought of the surrealists, made the acquaintance of Picasso. In 1948 he was invited to participate in the Venice Biennale, and international exhibitions began in the museums of Stuttgart, Munich, Dusseldorf, Hanover, Hamburg, Frankfurt. In 1954 he participated again in the Venice Biennale and the following year he was present at the first Documenta in Kassel. The Kootz Gallery in New York hosts several of his exhibitions and a table becomes part of the MOMA collection. In 1959 he held two solo exhibitions in Japan. I In 1985 he held several exhibitions: Basel, Paris, Madrid. Gerard Schneider died in Paris on July 8, 1986.
