Bronze capsule - line drawing figure with deep blue disk and stripes

2020

About the Item

Interior design paintings. The artwork were done with acrylic, ink and watercolor in bronze and deep blue color on watercolor paper 300g. The work are 11 by 15 inches in size, framed (gold or black) with a styrene face on a double mat board in deep blue with sizes 16 by 20 in. It could be part of the diptych or be separate. This is the "Many thoughts, one head" series. The series started with the picture of a figure with its hands framing the head - but without an actual head, as if hands were holding all the thoughts. Later on the head became objects - metaphors (soap, bubble, mine, alarm clock, etc.) as well as planets. Each person is an individual planet, with their own thoughts and satellites - companions. Artworks from this series got 3rd place at the 2020 American Art Awards, juried by 25 best galleries and museums in America, with artist from 63 countries, in category: minimalism. As a child, Mila was enrolled in art school and put in a class with children that were notably more mature in age and technique. Instead of just completing the task, this peculiar child would pay particular attention to details. Her teachers neglected these creative teachers, and, without proper support, her yet vulnerable talent never got a chance to reveal itself. Mila had dropped out of art school and put her art practice aside, but not the art itself. She graduated from Moscow State University with a degree in History and Theory of Art, as an Art Critic. During her university years, she surrounded herself by many artists, from who she frugally gathered more knowledge and experience in the craft of creation. Later she will take on the art of restoration. Mila's mentor, from her practice times, would have loved to see her pursue this career. However, now, owning a gallery of her own and being a mother of two, Mila has finally decided to go beyond her comfort zone. She is yet to find her one true voice on canvas. However, such a long road of self-discovery set her on the right track; talent must go through a series of obstacles to shine at its brightest.

The art of Philip Wittmann is founded on signals. For him, signs serve as a bridge between abstraction, reality and writing, too. When he was 26 years old, he began painting as a hobbyist using 'pure' abstraction. However, he believed his work lacked a solid foundation upon which to grow. He discovered a book on the origins of the Chinese alphabet, which origins are essentially signs, in 2008 while taking a calligraphy class. The 26 letters of our Latin alphabet are less pictorial than the Chinese characters as we know them now. He discovered that pictorial representation is more prevalent when examining the origins of alphabets—all alphabets, in fact—because there is frequently a similarity between the sign's true meaning and what it is meant to represent. For instance, the symbol for a turtle in the original Chinese script resembles a turtle. Wittmann loves signs as they leave room for interpretation. For instance, if one writes “the sky is blue”, one will make for themself a mental representation of a blue sky, even if each one-off us will probably have some nuance in our own mental representation of that blue sky. On the other hand, a sign can...
