Golden Orange – 29-11-22, Drawing, Pencil/Colored Pencil on Paper

About the Item

Another Golden One This colored pencil drawing ‘Golden Orange – 28-11-22’ is spawned by the same session as ‘Golden Shine’. Surely I had a lot of fun doing that one so why not do another? Finally, I finished my work on Melina after wearing embroidery glasses for hours. I got the resemblance a kind of right and that is why I like doing another female form in the rough. Sort of, I guess. In fact this one turned out to become a bit more elaborated than Golden Shine – 21-11-22. I definitetely wanted to get the lighting right. Contrary to the previous one the light shimmering through the limbs and breasts created more forms than a simple back. New Varieties This time my regular model took on an orange shine. I guess I just have to explore all the varieties of gold. Her skin complexion, often praised by me, allows me to do so. Due to the lamps I bought recently there is a new range of colors detectable in her skin. With all the high quality colored pencils I have collected throughout the years I can cover that range easily. Color Saturation Because of the saturated blue in the sheets at the left I felt confident to saturate all warm colors in the face and body. Actually I am surprized how strong the colors in this one became. Colored pencil tends to look a bit matt, especially when put on dark toned paper. Maybe that’s due to spraying the drawing a couple of times in between. The layers already filling up the tooth of the paper proved to stay receptive for yet another layer on top. .Less strong are the colors in the lamp. I put in a bit of orange and blue in order to connect to the female form. Accidentaly the beams of the lamp coincide with the direction of the hatched strokes. Lucky me! Massive Attack In the final stage of the drawing I was listening to Massive Attack ft. Hope Sando – The Spoils. I remember the video that goes with it. Cate Blanchett’s statues aging and crumbling into dust eventually. I came to realize an artist does the reverse thing. The power of creation. Whereas all things turn to dust we use dust (particles) to shape forms into being. Creations made and destroyed by one thing in common: time. I need more lives! Embracing Trees This graphite pencil drawing Park Hoog Oostduin – 14-09-22 follows directly after Het Sterrenbos – 12-09-22. Suddenly I found myself embracing the love for drawing trees again. Must be Autumn approacing. Throughout the years I see patterns in my sketching activities. Spring and Autumn by far are the most present in my art works. Some in Summer but the heat can be not pleasant to work in. I also get used to leaves on trees quite quickly. Only to forget how beautiful they are quite rapidly when November arrives. Then they start falling off trees and I often realize I did too few sketching outdoors. Repentance comes after the sin and 4 drooly months will follow until Spring arrives. Here it is, my yearly nature sketching...

Pencil study portrait drawing of a child painting at an easel by French artist Charles-Jean Agard. The work is signed bottom left and presented in a carved wood and gilt frame with mount under glass. A very charming pencil study of a child sitting at an easel. Agard has beautifully captured the head and face in full, with the light and shade, the rest of the body and surroundings are in sketch form, the contrast between the two making for a very successful composition beautifully capturing the intensity of the sitter. Charles Agard...
