About the Item
Straw Hat is a watercolor on paper painting, 12 x 9" image size, signed ‘HOFMANN’ lower left, and framed in a contemporary, white frame.
Hofmann has remarked that Vermeer was the pinnacle of 17th century painting for him because “the settings, the props, and the figures depicted all had an innate believability.” He has also greatly admired the Impressionists for a similar reason in that the images presented strove to provide some insight into the characters, even if contrived – workers working, dancers practicing, women bathing or simply lounging, etc.
