About the Item
This artwork "Animated Seashore" c. 1970, is a watercolor on paper by noted American/Japanese artist Atsushi Kikuchi, 1918-2016. It is hand signed at the lower left corner by the artist. With the artist red shop stamp. The artwork size is 11 x 30.5 inches, framed size is 18.25 x 37.75 inches. Custom framed in a black metal frame, with off white matting. it is in excellent condition, the frame have a few very minor scratches, practically invisible.
About the artist:
Atsushi Kikuchi was born in Seattle, WA in 1918, but spent his childhood in Japan. He moved to California to study art at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland and the Art Center in Los Angeles. In 1942, Kikuchi and his family were placed in an internment camp. In 1946, Kikuchi was inducted into the U.S. Army as a Counter Intelligence Officer. After WWII, he moved to Chicago, where he attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago. Kikuchi worked as fine artist in Chicago. He exhibited at the Renaissance Society of the University of Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago, winning the Robert Rice Jenkins Memorial Prize there. In 2016, Kikuchi died at the age of 98 in Knightdale, NC.
