This artwork titled "St Mary, Morro Bay, California" c.1940 is a watercolor on paper by California artist Cecil Wray Goodchild, 1901-1983. It is signed at the lower right corner. The artwork size is 19 x 24 inches, framed is 28.15 x 32.75 inches. Framed in a wooden black frame, with off white matting and gold color spacer. it is in very good condition. About the artist: Cecil Wray Goodchild (1901-1983) (San Luis Obispo/Glendale) San Luis Obispo-born watercolorist who specialized in scenes of ranches and Morro Bay. Port. Goodchild is well known for his watercolor depicting harbor scenes. He was born in San Luis Obispo. He spent five years at sea and in England. Mrs. Goodchild was born at sea on a British ship on the Calcutta, India line. She was a concert pianist, playing with symphony orchestras 10 years and with the Orpheum Circuit 20 years. The artist said that when the natural history museum is established at Morro Bay, he will paint every variety of fowl in the area and present the pictures to Amsel, who will give the paintings to the museum. It is in excellent condition, the colors are fresh and bright. About the artist: Stanley M. Long spent his childhood on a ranch in Napa where he broke wild horses. He began sketching when quite young and at 15 enrolled at the San Francisco Institute of Art. He continued at the California College of Arts and Crafts, where he was awarded a scholarship for further study at Académie Julian in Paris. He served in the camouflage corps in both world wars. Long taught art in San Francisco at Mission High School and for 17 years at Polytechnic High School. His western illustrations were featured in Sunset Magazine and the Los Angeles Times.
